Spoon Theory
Spoon Theory, a conceptual self-portrait.
Are you familiar with Spoon Theory? I'm surprised to find that many aren't and those that are can relate to the concept as well as dealing with chronic health or mental health conditions. It's one of those stories that puts life of a "Spoonie" (a name us chronic warriors have adopted) in perspective for those who don't firsthand deal with chronic conditions. I urge you to read Christine Miserandino's analogy HERE.
As someone who openly discusses my own struggles with living with chronic conditions I find the Spoon Theory analogy to be most useful. Verbally explaining anything has never been my strong suit, hence the imagery, so Christine's story has been useful to me over the years. For me, my method of communication is creating images and that is where this concept came from. The pain and shame one is burdened with when dealing with chronic conditions is exhausting.
Major hugs to you if you find any of this relatable. If you don't relate, please be thankful but also share compassion and understanding with the Spoonie's in your life.
